Francisco Balagtas, also known as Francisco Baltazar, considered one of the greatest Filipino literary laureates, wrote the epic Florante at Laura while in prison. He dedicated this masterpiece to his muse, Maria Asuncion Rivera, who was referenced in the epic as Selya.
