Under the ASEAN Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), overseas Filipino worker Mary Jane Veloso may actually be allowed to return to the Philippines to assist in the investigation on her alleged illegal recruiters. The MLAT, however, states that the requested party, Indonesia in Veloso's case, still has the final say on whether to allow her to leave "subject to its [Indonesian] domestic laws and practices."
