Senators Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Francis Escudero on Sunday urged Malacañang to start talks with China to find a peaceful solution to competing claims in the West Philippine Sea, the part of the South China Sea inside the country's exclusive economic zone. Marcos said the Philippine government should utilize both diplomatic and back channels in talking to China.
